CommunicativeCollaborativeCommitted

Shilpa Shinde-Garg, MD

LCUSD School Board

I'm a parent, a neighbor, and a member of this community. Our kids deserve a school board that listens, leads, and puts students first.

About the Campaign

As a physician, parent, and community leader, I believe strong public schools are the foundation of a thriving community. I am committed to academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, student well-being, and strong partnerships with teachers, families, and the community to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

The projects I have undertaken: including being visibility lead on the successful passage of the recent Measure LCF, have required organized, thoughtful leadership. I have also successfully developed programs like Girls Flag Football and led the Foundation for Boys Football, while being Boosters Director (supporting all extracurriculars) along with supporting Girls Soccer. In addition, I was on the stadium turf advisory committee, which allowed me to be involved in facilities improvements. On the school board, I can bring the collaboration and effectiveness I have shown previously. My deep-rooted connections with many parts of the community allow me to see different perspectives and make sound decisions that benefit our schools.

Why Am I Running?

After spending countless hours working on Measure LCF, I realized that I want to take a more active role in local government. Some of the most impactful decisions affecting our families and community are made at the local level.

I have been a working mother through the child-rearing years. However, my current stage of life allows more time and space to make objective, thoughtful decisions that would keep the momentum moving forward. My vested interest is that I care about this school district for the long term.

My work as a physician demands listening, problem-solving, efficiency, and empathy. That is exactly what I bring to the table: leadership that focuses on what students, teachers, and the community truly need. I believe in a well-rounded education and a space for each student's interests, with academics at the core.

The words that others have used to describe me include "collaborative, calm, listens, follows through, thoughtful, and elevates programs that she is involved in." I am proud that these qualities reflect the way I approach my work, my volunteer leadership, and my relationships within this community.

Community Support

Neighbors, parents, and educators standing with Shilpa.

As a young LCE parent, I'm excited to have Shilpa on the school board with her years of dedication to our schools and wealth of experience and involvement. We need leaders who know how to get things done for our district, and that's her.

Chris Lastrapes

LCE Parent & Head of Bond Committee 2026

I have known Shilpa for 15 years. She has always been a thoughtful leader and supporter of our community and the public school system. She sees the potential in each student and listens to the needs of our educators. I have no doubt she will be an effective advocate for our schools.

Dr. Flora Chen

PCR Parent & Physician

Shilpa would be an incredible addition to our School Board. She's a working mom who is deeply committed to La Canada Schools and has consistently been a rock star across a number of important volunteer positions. She's a smart, thoughtful, and organized problem solver who always gets the job done!

Grant Hosford

LCUSD Parent, LCHS Booster & Member of the 2026 Bond Committee

As an active volunteer and parent of four children who attended PCY through LCHS, I've had the good fortune to work alongside some of our best community leaders: people that are smart, gifted, collaborative, and generously give of their talents. Let me tell you, Shilpa is one of those people. She's a pragmatic, active listener — and I have absolute confidence in her vision for how we can serve our students and take our schools to an even brighter future.

Seth Larsen

PCY/LCHS Parent, Former LCBSA Coach, Former Cub Scouts Den Leader, Former Treasurer for Friends of La Canada Baseball

Shilpa is a tremendous candidate! She has the qualities, experience, and demeanor to well represent our school district, families, kids, and educators on the LCUSD school board! I've worked with her in numerous settings and she's super thoughtful, hard-working, and finishes projects! Excited for her candidacy and what she'd do for all the kids in La Canada Flintridge that attend our amazing schools!

Dave Avramovich

LC Parent & Coach / Educator

I worked closely with Shilpa on the LCHS Boosters. Shilpa always shares her observations with thought and care. She willingly supports a variety of extracurriculars and is not afraid to work hard to see things through. I admire her positive energy, driven work ethic and ability to bring projects to fruition.

Greg Harlan

Former Boosters Foundation President & Pediatrician

We have known Shilpa from LC high school and football. She is a dedicated Mom and parent and was a wonderful leader with football. She is approachable, warm and friendly and would be a great addition to the school board.

Jennifer Capo

LCHS volunteer, parent

She's dedicated to the cause and has been extremely vested in the well-being of our community and our children. She's already shown immense initiative to make our community and schools better. I believe she'll be an integral, helpful member of the school board.

Kalyani Karandikar

Physician and PCR parent

Shilpa has extensive experience working within the La Canada School District. She has a vision and the leadership ability to make change!

Blair Nicole Mostofi

LCE parent, volunteer

Shilpa’s leadership was instrumental in ensuring that the Spartan Stadium field was replaced in 2025, benefiting not only football, but all girls’ and boys’ LCHS field sports, physical education, and the LCF community. Shilpa has built great working relationships with many current district staff members.

Anthony Parille

Football Foundation President 2025 & Cooperstown Manager

What distinguishes her is her unwavering dedication to our schools and community. She understands LCUSD’s success is built on commitment to academic excellence, responsible financial stewardship, and meaningful engagement with parents, teachers, and students. She is not someone who seeks attention or recognition; she is someone who does the work.

Amanda Masucci

Community Supporter

Supporting Shilpa Shinde-Garg for the La Cañada School Board is an easy decision for me. I have known Shilpa for over a decade and have seen firsthand how deeply committed she is to our schools and our community. Shilpa has been an integral part of La Cañada, giving her time and energy wherever it has been needed. From serving as the visibility lead for Measure LCF to her involvement with the Football Foundation and Boosters, she has consistently shown up, worked hard, and supported the people and programs that make our schools stronger.

Danni Remender

Girl Scout Camp Director & Prior LCFEF Director

This is who Shilpa is: proactive and someone who thinks outside the box. She sees the bigger picture, not only financially and operationally, but emotionally and personally. She is dependable, honest, loyal to the core and, when she says she will do something, she follows through. Our community needs leaders who listen, care deeply, are willing to do the work and understand that the success of our children is ultimately about the strength of our schools. For me, Shilpa represents the best of where La Cañada has been and where we can go next, which is why I’m supporting her for the LCUSD Governing Board and think you should too.
